Random Walks

  • One step forward

    February 5th, 2023

Plans being what they are, they seldom remain static once you start implementing them, and that is good.

We’re not where we thought we would be by today, but we’ve moved from where we were.

Though frustrating at times, there is progress. Something good happened, and we have another chance to move forward. And that is worth building on.

  • A glance at what was

    February 3rd, 2023

When we note down something about today, or work a little on our project, it gives us some reference in future on what we did, and who we were.

Yes, most days are not extraordinary, and maybe, you might feel that there is nothing to say or achieve. You might be right, and yet, the future you will thank you for having done a little to move forward.

  • Just a friend

    January 29th, 2023

Well, it’s been said so many times by so many people, but the problem is that what was said was also advise. But, because I can’t help it, I will add my voice to the choir and say: If they didn’t ask for your advise, they are not looking for it. In fact, even if they ask, they might not be ready for your advise.

So, what then to do to help your friend in distress? I don’t really know, but maybe it is enough to be there, to just be a sponge, or a bouncing board. And when that friend is us, we may realize that what we want is a friend, and not an advise guru. Let’s give the same to our friend in need.

And that is my unsolicited advise to you.

  • Slowing down

    January 24th, 2023

To move faster, you want to make sure that you only do something once. Any repeat slows you down. However, to be fast requires you to not do it with haste, but rather with care.

When we slow down to determine what exactly needs to be done and then do the steps at the right pace, we get there faster, and with better quality.

So, as we rush off to get started with the day or task at hand, a few moments to slow down at the beginning and throughout the process can be critical.

  • Strive

    January 17th, 2023

I read the quote commonly attributed to Mark Twain that says: “The world owes you nothing, it was here first.” This quote is so revealing, and so true in many circumstances, and we can replace the word world with anything or any person. Even when you have done your best, with your best intentions, the results may be different from what you envisioned.

Our intention, therefore, is to strive to do what we can, with what we have, where we are, and based on our values. When we have done our best, we should then be able to appreciate the effort without stressing about the results. Then, if we get what we thought we would achieve, we can rejoice in the moment. And if the result is different, we can also delight in the unpredictability of life. And with that, recommit to try again, for the joy of the work.
